Help to Claim Universal Credit – new service for local people
Posted on 29th March 2019 in Blog, Noticeboard

From 1st April we will be helping local people to claim Universal Credit. The project which is a partnership between the DWP and Citizens Advice will help people from starting their claim through to their correct first payment. Our help will be offered on a ‘no door the wrong door’ basis which means that local people will be helped at our office, on the phone and online.
The help will be as follows:
- Check eligibility for Universal Credit
- Set up an email account
- Set up a UC account
- Work through claim ‘to dos’
- Access the phone claim line or the home visiting service from DWP if the client is eligible
- Verify identity
- Provide additional evidence
- Prepare for the practicalities of monthly payments
- Access adaptations such as rent direct to landlord
- Apply for additional financial help
If people have already claimed UC or need help with other issues then we will help them through our ‘core’ service. Click the link to find out how people can access this
