Here is an item from the Guardian newspaper about a call to help protect tenants who have been affected by Covid19 reduction in income..
There are concerns that, once the current protection provision ends (it was put in place for 3 months) some landlords might seek to evict tenants who have built up rent arrears. The concern then is how will these people find new homes and what impact will the demand for housing have on the already stretched private rentals market.
On the other hand there are also concerns for landlords who work on a small scale and who may be dependent on rental income for their family finances. For instance a pensioner couple asked us for help when their tenant was not able to pay her rent . The landlord had a modest income and the rental helped them to manage on their state pensions, without it they would need to sell the rented out flat (which can’t be done at the moment). It was a worrying time for them and for the tenant.
